Alfred Matthew Yankovic ( 1959), better known by his stage name “Weird Al”
Yankovic, is an American singer-songwriter, musician, parodist, record
producer, satirist, actor, music video director, film producer, and author.
He is known for his humorous songs that make light of popular culture and
often parody specific songs by contemporary musical acts, original songs
that are style pastiches of the work of other acts, and polka medleys of
several popular songs, featuring his favored instrument the accordion.
Since his first-aired comedy song in 1976, he has sold more than 12 million
albums (as of 2007), recorded more than 150 parody and original songs, and
has performed more than 1,000 live shows. His works have earned him three
Grammy Awards and a further 11 nominations, four gold records, and six
platinum records in the United States. Yankovic’s first top ten Billboard
album (Straight Outta Lynwood) and single (“White & Nerdy”) were both
released in 2006, nearly three decades into his career. His latest album,
Mandatory Fun (2014), became his first number one album on its debut week.
Yankovic’s success comes in part from his effective use of music video to
further parody popular culture, the song’s original artist, and the
original music videos themselves, scene-for-scene in some cases. He
directed later videos himself and went on to direct for other artists
including Ben Folds, Hanson, The Black Crowes, and The Presidents of the
United States of America. With the decline of music television and the
onset of social media, Yankovic used YouTube and other video sites to
publish his videos; this strategy proved integral helping to boost sales of
his later albums including Mandatory Fun. Yankovic has stated that he may
forego traditional albums in favor of timely releases of singles and EPs
following on this success.
In addition to recording his albums, Yankovic wrote and starred in the film
UHF (1989) and The Weird Al Show (1997). He has also made guest appearances
and voice acting roles on many television shows and video web content, in
addition to starring in Al TV specials on MTV. He has also written two
children’s books.
Not only is this video funny and musically successful, but it really
captures the 80s. Great, now I miss the 80s HARD. Big hair, classy women,
brutal movies, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose… sob.
Amazing that they brought in Art Fleming and Don Pardo for this video. I
watched the ’60s and ’70s version of Jeopardy! and this is what it looked
like.
I actually like this parody over Greg Kihn’s original tune…go figure.
Barry Hansen–the bearded stage director in this video–was instrumental in
giving “Weird A”l his big-break, by airing his goofy parodies on his DR.
DEMENTO SHOW on KMET-FM in Los Angeles back in the 70s. It was also great
to see original JEOPARDY host: ART FLEMING and announcer
extraordinaire–the late DON PARDO, in this video.
A similar situation like this happened on May 30th, 2014 when both Julia
Collins’ opponents, Wendy Hardenberg and Sami Siegelbaum had PhDs. I was
tense! I was nervous! For the first time in over a week, Julia did not turn
this game into a runaway-ay-ay!
Wait…One of the categories was “Famous Accordion Players”…Wouldn’t
Weird Al be considered a famous accordion player by now? He’s used it in
several songs, especially in his early years of his career.
A happy birthday to :

Weird Al Yankovic – Jeopardy (1983)
What is this song a parody of?
This video is a total laugh!
Is this an authentic copy of the old 1980s Jeopardy set?
Was that Alec Baldwin at the end
I love how it references the Greg kihn clip by having Al rip a piece of
wood of as he is hauled out. I’m probably one of a few who even noticed

“Weird Al” Yankovic – I Lost On Jeopardy
Amazing that they brought in Art Fleming and Don Pardo for this video. I
watched the ’60s and ’70s version of Jeopardy! and this is what it looked
like.
Don Pardo is now at the pearly gates announcing new arrivals in epic
fashion.
May Al live to be a healthy 1,000 years old and his delightful pop culture
dadaism never end!

Wait…One of the categories was “Famous Accordion Players”…Wouldn’t

This should be Wolf Blitzer’s theme song.
RIP Don Pardo. 🙁 This is the first thing I thought of about him. Amazing
that he did radio and SNL voiceovers pretty much right up to his death.
RIP Don Pardo. Now there are two great voices in Heaven named Don.
I cannot unhear the lyrics to this song when I hear the original
